[My friend Lourdes was a total trooper and humored me by climbing into the freezing cold Puget Sound while fully clothed *and* while playing her violin. And this photo is inspired by an amazing shot I saw the other day by Rosie Hardy. After we got out of the water and all dry, I realized I could've added a bit more to the shot if I'd have gotten some nice splashes in, but ah well. Might have gone a little overboard with the editing on this one? Not sure...]

Timers are frustrating, aren't they? I actually just had a complete failure of self-portrait sessions... Very aggravating when I'm already so tired and don't have time for failures...

Good for you! You're doing what you've got to for the time being, and that's how it all begins!

This is a jawdropper! The only thing that would have improved this (like there would be anything to improve here) is the wave splashing you mentioned, but the emotional charge really shows. The violinist is battling the endless depths of the dark ocean with her playing, and only that allows daylight to retain her precious buoyancy.

I don't think you've overdone the editing here—the sky is indeed slightly off in terms of perspective, but it only adds to the menace of the dark skies.

I wonder how it might have looked if it was windy, the waves were really high and she was playing standing, about knee-deep in the water, in a defiant pose? I'd say awesome. ;)
